Kimchi or gimchi (김치 in Hangul)

Groenten, meestal kool of witte radijs. Gewoonlijk ingemaakt in pekel met ansjovis, gember, knoflook, groene ui en chilipepers. Er zijn ontelbare varaties (tenminste zoveel als er huishoudens zijn). Wordt gegeten als bijgerecht.

Bulgogi (불고기)

Rundvlees (soms varkensvlees), gemarineerd in sojasaus, sesamolie, knoflook en pepers. Bereid boven de grill, vaak aan tafel. Het is een hoofdgerecht en wordt gereserveerd met rijst en bijgerechten. Bulgogi betekent letterlijk “vuur-rund” en wordt ook wel Koreaanse barbecue genoemd.

Bibimbap (비빔밥)

Betekent letterlijk gemengde rijst of gemengde maaltijd. Rijst bedekt met groenten, rundvlees en ei, geserveerd met een pasta van pepertjes. Een variatie van dit gerecht, dolsot bibimbap, wordt geserveerd in een verwarmde stenen kom, waarin een rauw ei gekookt wordt tegen de zijkanten van de kom.

Kalbi of galbi (갈비)

Ribbetjes, van varken of rund, gebakken op een gaspit in het midden van de tafel en vergezeld van rijst en diverse bijgerechten.

Kimbap of gimbap (김밥)

Betekent letterlijk zeewier rijst. Rijst met reepjes groenten, ei en ham, opgerold in zeewier en gesneden. Dit is een populaire snack bij kinderen voor tijdens de lunch. Lijkt op Japanse rijstrolletjes (sushi).

Naengmyeon (냉면)

Betekent letterlijk koude pasta. Dit zomergerecht bevat verschillende soorten huisgemaakte noedels en wordt geserveerd in een grote kom met ijs, dunne reepjes rauwe groenten en vaak een gekookt ei of koud vlees.

Songpyeon (송편)

Taart, geserveerd tijdens Chuseok, het traditionele “midden-herfst-feest”. Wordt gedecoreerd met sesam, sojabonen en kastanjes.

On Wednesday the 20th of May we had this first meeting, it took a some time before everybody was there but then finally we could start. Well actually it was Edwin that started to give the presentation with all the information about the study trip and the course for the participators.

But while he was talking we had some interruptions, first of all a teacher of our university. Prof.Dr.Ir. U. Kaymak was very happy to see that Vrisbi is organizing another study trip. He sees this event as an great opportunity for the students to learn. He told the participants a little bit about the research and what is going to be researched. He believes the course and study trip is going to be a success and that it will be great fun for everyone that is involved with it. And that is exactly the thoughts of the committee as well.

The second interruption was planned as well and that was to get to know everyone a little bit better. Every participant was asked to tell something about themselves and what they thought of the study trip. It was good to hear everybody talk and it gave me the great feeling that; “yes we have chosen the right team for this whole experience!”.
After that Edwin finished up his presentation with informing everyone what needs to be done before we can travel. And afterwards we got a drink together in the “De Smitse”.

Two weeks ago we formed a team of fourteen great individuals that will be part of the research team! It took us many hours to discuss and to decide who was going to join our team because there were so many great students that were willing to be part of the team.

The next stop on the road to Seoul is on the 20th of may! There will be a meeting with everyone that is participating and we will tell you everything about the course, the research and the trip to Seoul. You can ask all your questions and we will provide the information we have.
